Day 5: A Package for Mily

This past fall, we started sponsoring a little girl in Ecuador through World Vision.  Her name is Mily.  Today's activity involved putting together a package for Mily.  We wanted it to be special and personal.  This is the first thing we're sending to her other than a quick introductory email I previously sent.  I read up on the guidelines.  No food, money, crayons (they'll melt) should be sent.  It must all fit in a 9 x 6 envelope.  This can be a bit tricky as that isn't much space and everything needs to be relatively flat.
Working hard on our pictures for sweet Mily.

I rounded up some stuff for us to send to Mily including some Dora stickers, a new hairbow, a foam airplane, a new pencil, a balloon, a notepad and a picture of our family.  I wrote her a letter telling her about our family.

Each of the big boys drew a picture for her and signed it.

Mily is only 3, so she is obviously not going to read the notes and probably won't even really understand it when her mother reads it to her.  My hope is that the package puts a smile on her face.  I'm a 33 year old adult but when I receive something fun in the mail, no matter how small, I get a little excited.  Also, I am hopeful that her parents will realize that there is a family in Chicago that loves their daughter and is thinking about and praying for her.

Jon mailed the package the next day on the way to work.  We have no idea how long it takes to get to her and if it will make it there before Christmas, but it was fun putting it together for her.  My hope is to do this every year at Christmas and for her birthday.

  1. I have really wanted to do something like this on a regular basis for our Sytenise. I really admire you for actually putting it in motion. For some reason it seems overwhelming to me to find thing and mail them. Clearly I need to get over it and just do it! That is something I love about you--you are fearless and just do it!
